Mick first started playing football in the late sixties with a successful Hurfield School team, winning the Heinz Trophy in 1969.
On leaving school, he played most of his football with his brother Dave, turning out for Telephone Sports, and then a successful period with the Handsworth White Rose. After a short spell with Intake Sports he returned to the White Rose, where he took over the role of secretary. The team changed it's name' and base, and became Junction F.C., where he had another successful period with the support of Brian Waller. Work commitments forced him to hand over the reigns at the Junction, a decision he did not make lightly, although he did continue playing when available, and in fact he would play for anyone who needed players. This action brought him to play for Handsworth Cocked Hat where he formed a friendship with Mick Waldron and Bob Hill, which was to lead to the formation of Handsworth Boys F.C. The club started with one team in 1987 and currently having ten teams involving over 180 lads, a fact Mick was very proud of. He still enjoyed playing himself, and over the remaining years of his short life he helped out Rotherwood F.C. and B.S.C. Tinsley when they had a shortage of players. Of course his last club was Real Princess, competing in the Wragg Over 35's League, the team he was playing for when he was called for an early bath. All in all football in Sheffield, particularly the Handsworth and Woodhouse areas have missed Mick Wragg.
